Manchester United are only four competitive games into the 2026/27 season, yet attention has already started drifting towards what the club could be wearing next year.
Michael Carrick’s side have endured a mixed opening domestically, losing 2-0 at Hull City, beating Ipswich Town 5-2 and drawing 2-2 at Everton before responding with a convincing 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah FK.
The current campaign has also brought three very different adidas kits.
United’s red home shirt leans into a more traditional look, while the royal blue away strip takes inspiration from the club’s 1988 design and incorporates a flowing pattern linked to the River Irwell.
The third kit, meanwhile, offers a completely different feel with its lighter base and more distinctive colour combination.
Focus has now quickly shifted to 2027/28.
Details of United’s next home kit emerged earlier today, with the design reportedly set to draw on Manchester’s industrial roots and the club’s traditional ideas of work ethic and unity.
That was followed by information regarding the 2027/28 away shirt, which is expected to use an off-white Ecru Tint base and take inspiration from Northern Soul culture.
Now the first details of the third kit have also surfaced.
According to Footy Headlines, Manchester United’s 2027/28 third shirt is expected to be predominantly black.
The specific accent colours are not yet known, although adidas are expected to pair the dark base with contrasting secondary details.
Black alternative shirts have generally been popular with United supporters over the years, with previous versions featuring combinations of yellow, blue, red, orange and white.
The most recent black United change strip came in 2025/26, when the club used yellow and blue detailing alongside the darker base.
The new third kit is currently scheduled for release in summer 2027, with further design details expected to emerge as production moves closer.
