Ruben Amorim assured Manchester United academy players that they will have a place in the squad under him next season. Amorim plans a huge squad overhaul during the summer transfer window, selling many senior team players to raise transfer funds.

The Red Devils finished 16th in the Premier League last season under Amorim and lost the Europa League final game. United’s Premier League finish is well below their immense stature, particularly when their archrivals are thriving at the upper echelon.

The Red Devils’ historical arch-rivals, Liverpool, won the Premier League title, equalling their record of 20 league titles in England. At the same time, United are facing financial problems after frivolously spending money in the transfer market, yielding poor results.

At the same time, the senior team’s failure to adjust to Amorim’s tactics has forced the club to sell players. Many of these players have struggled with inconsistency and weak mentality even before Amorim arrived at the club last season.

Speaking to MUTV, Amorim assured the players from the United academy that they will have a place in the squad next season. He said:

“I really like the kids, I think Jimmy [Thwaites], in the last 15 minutes, as a midfielder, he wants to play. It doesn’t matter how many minutes. These kind of young kids are really important. They will have space in our team. Of course, it’s a good feeling [for Obi to score twice] but he needs to continue to train really hard because the Premier League is a different world. We have to improve as a team but I’m really pleased with the kids. Ayden proved, in every game for the first team, he is ready to be an option. Of course, he has got to improve. It’s important for us to control these kids, to show them to be a professional in Manchester United it’s really hard to maintain the level. He is starting and needs to continue.”

Considering the daunting task that United are facing in the market, there is a possibility of having a small squad. The Red Devils intend to sell most of their unwanted players to raise funds and ease their inflated wage budget.

At the same time, United have no European competition to compete in the next season, easing their fixture list. The situation provides Amorim with an opportunity to use the academy players in a rotation policy or as backups.

The Red Devils have a long history of building academy players into key players for the club. United fans would love to see Amorim repeat the success that Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed in developing youth talents.
