Manchester United have been forced into making an alteration to their 2026/27 kit ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils have already undergone major change this summer.

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have both arrived to strengthen Michael Carrick’s midfield.

However, business has slowed down considerably in recent weeks, which has led to criticism from supporters who believe United should still be making further additions before the transfer window closes.

Attention has now turned towards what United will be wearing during the new campaign.

The club recently officially released their new third kit, with the ivory strip featuring a distinctive design inspired by the culture and communities of greater Manchester United.

United have already worn the shirt on the pitch, debuting it during their 4-2 friendly defeat to AC Milan.

However, the version supporters saw during that fixture will not be exactly the same when United compete in Europe this season.

Manchester United forced to change third kit

According to Footy Headlines, Manchester United will be required to modify the front-of-shirt sponsorship on their third kit for Champions League matches.

The standard version of the shirt features a minimalist Snapdragon fireball emblem as part of the vertically aligned branding alongside the adidas logo and United’s simplified devil crest.

UEFA Equipment Regulations, though, mean the Snapdragon wordmark must also appear beneath the emblem when the shirt is used in the Champions League.

The competition’s rules require the main front-of-shirt sponsor branding to remain consistent across all registered match kits.

As a result, United will have to add the Snapdragon name underneath the existing logo for their European fixtures.

The overall design of the third shirt will remain unchanged, meaning this is not a complete redesign of the kit.

Nevertheless, supporters will be able to spot a clear difference between the version worn domestically and the one United use during their return to Champions League football.
