Manchester United are satisfied with the progress of goalkeeper Radek Vitek on loan at Accrington Stanley, but the youngster is unsure what the future holds for him at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag may rate Vitek as a young goalkeeper, but he is unable to give him assurances over first-team opportunities. It was decided that a loan spell at Accrington Stanley would at least help the the young keeper experience senior football on a regular basis.
Vitek was not ready to play a part at United when the season started, however, we must wait for Ten Hag to make another decision on the matter after he returns from Accrington Stanley.
The 20-year-old has been reflecting on his time away from United.
Vitek told Sport: “The start was great. (Man United) follow me all the time. The vast majority of our games are attended by scouts or someone else from the club. I also communicate with United’s goalkeeper coaches, we discuss my performances.
“I have positive feedback (from United).”
The Czech Republic U20s international will keep United happy so long as he’s playing regularly on Accrington Stanley for the remainder of the season. It’s likely that he will return before being sent to a league of higher standard than League Two.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone responded Sunday, one day after Alex Rodriguez suggested his team lacks discipline and accountability. On FOX’s MLB pregame show Saturday, Rodriguez questioned the “accountability” of the Yankees after Boone did not pull Jazz Chisholm from Saturday’s loss to Miami after the infielder made a brutal baserunning blunder. Rodriguez suggested that the Yankees do not face consequences for such mistakes, and that it has contributed to further errors. “If any one of us made a mistake, we would be sitting our butt right on the bench,” Rodriguez said. “I see mistake after mistake, and there’s no consequences.” Boone took issue with those remarks when asked about them on Sunday. He said he accepts that the Yankees will always face added scrutiny, but that he disagreed with the substance of Rodriguez’s remarks. “I would disagree a little bit with the accountability factor, but the reality is, we’re focused every day on being the best we can be,” Boone said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “That’s how we have to do it. But I understand when it doesn’t happen, or we don’t have the record that I think we should have, or certainly people think we should have — that comes with the territory.” Boone is known for keeping things positive publicly, even when things are going poorly for the Yankees. That has led to some criticism from fans, who feel that he goes too easy on his players when they are underperforming. The team’s recent stretch of mediocre play combined with a lack of consequences for errors like Chisholm’s have reinforced those critiques. The Yankees lost again on Sunday and were swept by the Marlins, dropping them to 60-51 on the season. Until the team starts consistently winning again, Boone is going to hear more comments like Rodriguez’s.
The Washington Commanders are dealing with some unwanted drama as they look to build on last season's trip to the NFC Championship Game after star wide receiver Terry McLaurin requested a trade. ESPN's Bill Barnwell said that he felt the "most likely scenario" regarding the trade request is that the Commanders will have McLaurin in the lineup for their Week 1 game against the New York Giants on Sept. 7. On Monday morning, Commanders reporter Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic predicted that "the Commanders will keep McLaurin" despite the drama. "They can’t take away their star quarterback’s go-to receiver in a year when they’ve clearly gone all in to try to compete with the Eagles," Jhabvala wrote. "They don’t have much depth at receiver; Deebo Samuel isn’t a true No. 2 in workload, let alone a No. 1, and the only other proven receiver on the roster is Noah Brown, who is quite good but has a lengthy injury history." McLaurin emerged as the favorite target for quarterback Jayden Daniels as Daniels became the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year amid the run to the NFC title game, where Washington fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles. According to ESPN stats, McLaurin ended the 2024 regular season with team highs of 117 targets, 82 receptions and 1,096 receiving yards. He was also second in the entire NFL with 13 touchdown catches. It remains to be seen if McLaurin will accept less money than DK Metcalf, who received a five-year, $150M deal after the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for him in March. Metcalf will turn 28 years old in December. "The Commanders also know they have much more leverage than McLaurin in his contract dispute," Jhabvala added. "He’ll be 30 in September, which means he’ll be 31 in the first season of an extension. It also means that holding out regular-season games could be career-ending. So, a deal will get done. There’s still time." As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Washington sixth among the betting favorites at +1800 odds to win Super Bowl LX. The fact that those odds haven't shifted would seem to indicate that insiders believe the Commanders will make McLaurin happy before they face the Giants on the opening Sunday of September.
