Manchester United in talks to sign Manu Kone

Manu Kone has emerged as the latest midfielder linked with Manchester United as Michael Carrick continues reshaping the heart of his squad.

The Red Devils have already strengthened their midfield by officially signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and completing the £35 million arrival of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

However, recent reports have revealed that United have already begun working on the signing of a third midfielder.

Kone is now being tipped as one of the leading candidates.

According to transfer insider Djamel, the mystery midfielder Manchester United recently held initial talks over is Roma star Manu Kone.

The reporter claims United have already initiated discussions with the France international’s entourage, although they face competition from several other clubs.

Djamel wrote on X: “The midfielder I was referring to is Manu Kone. While Manchester United has initiated talks, they are not the only club in the race. Let’s see how this develops.”

The update follows recent comments from Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who admitted the club’s Financial Fair Play situation could influence Kone’s future.

Gasperini also stressed that any decision regarding the midfielder will ultimately rest with Roma’s owners rather than himself.

Roma have already rejected a €40 million (£33.8 million) offer from Atletico Madrid and are believed to value the 24-year-old at around €60 million (£50.7 million).

Previous reports have suggested Manchester United are considering an offer worth approximately €50 million (£42.6 million) as they continue exploring further midfield reinforcements.

At this stage, the reported contact has been with Kone’s representatives rather than Roma, meaning any potential move remains in its early stages.

Nevertheless, with United still searching for another midfielder despite landing Santos and Tielemans, Kone appears to remain firmly on the club’s shortlist as the summer transfer window continues.
