Manchester United have officially advertised for a new manager as pressure continues to build around Michael Carrick following a difficult start to the season.

Carrick earned the permanent job after producing a remarkable turnaround as interim boss last season.

Having replaced Ruben Amorim in January, the former midfielder won 11 of his first 16 matches and guided United to a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification.

It was enough to earn Carrick a two-year contract, but the mood has changed considerably just months later.

United have won only one of their opening five Premier League matches and were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton.

Most recently, a late deflected Matheus Cunha goal rescued a 1-1 draw against Fulham, sending United into the international break sitting 12th.

The situation carries added weight given United’s managerial instability.

Carrick is the 12th manager or head coach, including interim appointments, to take charge since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Against that backdrop, supporters spotting a new managerial vacancy on the club’s official website could understandably raise eyebrows.

However, Carrick’s position is not the one being advertised.

Manchester United are instead recruiting a permanent YouTube Channel Manager to oversee the club’s official channel.

According to the vacancy published on United’s official website, the successful applicant will work across Carrington and Old Trafford as part of the communications department.

The role involves managing United’s YouTube strategy, publishing, analytics, administration and monetisation, while working alongside the club’s internal content creators.

United also want their new manager to help plan and produce videos, develop original formats and oversee content surrounding matchdays, interviews and behind-the-scenes access.

Strong football knowledge, particularly of United, is listed as essential, alongside experience managing a YouTube channel and understanding analytics, SEO and content strategy.

The position is permanent and entirely onsite, while applicants must also be willing to work weekends and evenings around United’s football calendar.

Applications close on September 22, meaning the club are now approaching the deadline to find their latest manager – albeit one whose results will be measured in views rather than Premier League points.
