Manchester United officially enter Otten Cup

Manchester United face one of the busiest seasons in recent years, with Michael Carrick’s side preparing to compete on four major fronts.

Alongside the Premier League, the Reds will also be aiming for success in the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup as they look to build on last season’s progress.

While attention will naturally be on the senior squad, the club’s academy continues to play a huge role in shaping United’s future.

Every summer presents another opportunity for the next generation to test themselves against elite opposition before the new campaign begins.

The club has consistently used international youth tournaments to expose its brightest talents to different styles of football, with many former academy stars making their mark in these competitions before stepping into senior football.

After narrowly missing out on silverware on multiple fronts last season, United’s youngsters will be eager to take another step forward and show they can compete with the world’s best academy sides.

Manchester United have now discovered who they will face at the 2026 Otten Cup after the draw for the prestigious youth tournament was confirmed.

The annual Under-19 competition, staged in Eindhoven, will begin on Friday 14 August, with the final taking place on Sunday 16 August. Despite appearing in previous editions, the Reds have never managed to lift the trophy.

United have been placed in Group A, where they will come up against tournament hosts PSV Eindhoven, Brazilian outfit Palmeiras, and Australian side Adelaide United, as the club announced on their website.

The opposite group features reigning champions Inter Milan, alongside Benfica, Chelsea, Club Brugge, and Monaco, creating another strong field for this year’s competition.

The tournament follows an encouraging 2025/26 campaign for United’s academy under Darren Fletcher, even if silverware ultimately proved elusive.

The Under-18 side finished second in the U18 Premier League North, ending the season on 56 points, just four behind champions Manchester City.

They also reached the FA Youth Cup final, where City edged them 2-1, before suffering another heartbreaking defeat in the U18 Premier League Cup final, losing 6-5 on penalties to Crystal Palace after a 1-1 draw.

With another chance to face elite youth opposition now on the horizon, the Otten Cup provides the perfect stage for United’s next generation to continue their development before the new season begins.
