Manchester United are rebuilding their midfield this summer ahead of an important 2026/27 campaign.
The Red Devils will be hoping to kick on in the Premier League despite a frustrating 2-0 loss to Hull City on the opening day of the season.
With Carlos Baleba signing for the club after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, United’s overhaul of the middle of the park is complete.
Michael Carrick will now be looking to the future for inspiration, and has sent 19-year-old Jacob Devaney on loan to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.
Upon his season-long loan departure, which includes an option for Hibs to permanently sign Devaney, the youngster has confirmed a new contract at Old Trafford on his Instagram page.
The 19-year-old wrote, “So pleased to announce that I have joined @hibernianfootballclub on a season long loan and also signed a new contract at @manutd until 2029.”
It’s an interesting circumstance given Hibernian can trigger their option to sign Jacob Devaney, but will give the midfielder an opportunity for longer term security should the Scottish Premiership side choose not to do so.
The new three-year deal has not yet been confirmed on any of Manchester United’s socials, but has been confirmed by Devaney himself as he embarks on an exciting new opportunity north of the border, where he will play the likes of Celtic and Rangers throughout the 2026/27 season.
As Manchester United prepare for the new campaign, senior figures will be keeping a keen eye as to how their prospect does in a testing first-team environment.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils will be hoping to bounce back after an opening day defeat and beat newly-promoted Ipswich Town to get their first three points on the board.
