Manchester United have a very important season ahead of them. The Red Devils had a 2024/25 season to forget on all fronts and for a club of such stature, it was almost embarrassing to see the results week after week. Ruben Amorim will know the importance of correcting that this summer.
The Portuguese tactician came in midway through last season, replacing Erik ten Hag at the helm. However, the young manager was unable to replicate the kind of results he was able to extract from Sporting CP and the rest of the season went on as a period of adaptation.
While the fans and the owners might have been patient with Ruben Amorim who was working without a pre-season last time around, the Portuguese manager will know that he has absolutely no excuses going forward. To do well with this squad though, he needs some reinforcements which include the goalkeeping position.
Now, as per the Telegraph (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United continue to be interested in signing PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. The €40m-rated Italian’s future at Parc des Princes is far from certain and the Red Devils could take advantange.
It is not often that you see a Champions League-winning club open to selling their first-choice goalkeeper but Donnarumma’s contractual situation is precarious and the two parties don’t seem to be seeing eye-to-eye over any potential new long-term deal as things stand.
Man Utd’s number one goalkeeper for the past couple of seasons has been Andre Onana. Since moving to the club from Inter Milan after an excellent season where he led them to the Champions League final, the Cameroonian international has flattered to deceive at Old Trafford.
Gigio Donnarumma and his camp do not rule out to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

Even with contract expiring in June 2026 and Chevalier coming soon, Gigio could stay and compete for his spot as he did with Navas…

Onana is currently out injured with a torn hamstring and moving him on would be difficult for the Red Devils. That said, going into the new season without signing a new goalkeeper could turn out to be even more catastrophic and Donnarumma would be an excellent addition.
Man Utd will need to hope that their project is sufficient to convince the ‘world class’ PSG goalkeeper to join the English club this summer. In the absence of Champions League football, it might be very difficult and let’s wait and see how things play out in the coming weeks.
