Manchester United star suffers injury in PSG friendly

Pre-season is an important part of the preparation for the new football season.

Players return and managers look to gear their squad up for fight on all fronts in the upcoming campaign.

With the FIFA World Cup this summer, many players are still coming back from their tournament excursions and teams are still taking shape.

That has allowed many players, who did not go to the World Cup, to stake a claim for their position in the team ahead of their teammates returning.

Manchester United have largely been featuring such players in their pre-season friendlies this year and have suffered a setback to one of their players already.

In today’s pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain, midfielder Mason Mount was substituted early in the game with what looked like an injury.

Mount, who has played in a more deeper midfield role so far in pre-season, was taken off in the 21st minute of the game and replaced by fellow midfielder Tyler Fletcher.

The England international was pictured signalling towards his toes when he was taken off the field in an apparent indication as to what he may have injured.

Mason Mount will be hoping that it’s not a serious injury in what would be another setback in his Manchester United career.

The former Chelsea captain has had a stop-start time at Old Trafford with injuries constantly stalling his progress in Manchester.

So far in this pre-season, Mount has actually been playing fairly well.

Partnering summer signing Andrey Santos in the middle of the park, he’s been showing a lot of the talent and promise that United fans know he’s capable of and it was hoped it would be a launching pad for the new campaign.

There is no news so far on the seriousness of the injury, but leaving the pitch less than a quarter of an hour into any match is not a good sign.

United fans will be hoping that it’s just a precaution and the case that the club do not want to jeopardise anything further in what is just a friendly to warm up for the new campaign.

With Manuel Ugarte also sidelined for a large portion of the season, Manchester United will need all the midfield options they can get ahead of fighting in both the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
