Manchester United still working to sign fourth midfielder

Manchester United have placed significant emphasis on rebuilding their midfield throughout the summer transfer window.

Michael Carrick has already welcomed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Carlos Baleba became the latest addition.

Those three arrivals appeared capable of completing a major overhaul in the middle of the pitch, particularly following Casemiro’s departure earlier in the summer.

However, there are growing indications that United are not finished strengthening their midfield before the transfer window closes.

The Red Devils have been linked with an abundance of options throughout the summer, with Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni arguably among the highest-profile names mentioned.

Fresh speculation also emerged on Wednesday surrounding his teammate Eduardo Camavinga, with reports claiming Manchester United are preparing a €50million bid for the France international.

While another established first-team midfielder would represent a huge statement, United are simultaneously continuing to pursue younger talent capable of developing at Old Trafford.

Manchester United remain active in pursuit of fourth midfielder

The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell has confirmed that Manchester United’s pursuit of Leicester City midfielder Louis Page remains active.

Speaking during a Reddit Q&A, Whitwell was asked for the latest on the teenager and revealed that United remain firmly involved alongside Arsenal.

He said: “That is still active – it is a case of United or Arsenal agreeing a fee with Leicester, is my understanding.”

United have been pursuing Page for several weeks, with the club previously reported to be working on a deal for the Leicester midfielder.

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising midfielders of his age group and has already accumulated significant senior experience.

Page made 21 appearances across all competitions for Leicester last season after breaking into the first-team picture, while he was named the Championship Apprentice of the Season for 2025/26.

Primarily a box-to-box midfielder, he has represented England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 level.

Page was also included in The Guardian’s Next Generation list in 2024 before establishing himself at senior level.

United will now need to agree a fee with Leicester while also overcoming serious competition from Arsenal if they are to add another midfielder to an already heavily strengthened department.
