Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to leave Manchester United for the Saudi Pro League anytime soon

Manchester United star midfielder Bruno Fernandes was linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the recently concluded summer transfer window, but while the former Sporting Lisbon star ended up staying put at M16, there is growing belief that this could be his final campaign at Old Trafford.

And given the current situation with Bruno at United, it looks like a really fluid situation which is going to come down to performance.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently addressed these speculations growing among the supporters regarding Bruno and his future at United, but he went on to note that Fernandes is currently happy at United. But then Fabrizio also went on to confirm that Saudi Pro League clubs remain interested in his signature, and they could end up returning for his services with mighty offers in future windows.

Romano said via. Teamtalk:

“Bruno is happy at Manchester United. Then if you ask me in the future does Bruno have any chance to join Saudi Pro League? I think yes.

“[Saudi sides] have always been there and they will return to the table, for sure, because they love Bruno Fernandes. His quality, his leadership… so, they will return.

“But at the moment it’s not something close or imminent for Bruno to join Al Ittihad.

“So at the moment Man Utd keep thinking Bruno will complete this season at the club and then we will see from 2026.”

Saudi interest surrounds Bruno, but an exit does not look imminent

We have seen news of Al Ittihad showing a lot of admiration for Fernandes, but at the moment there is no suggestion that a transfer is imminent. At the moment, United expect him to remain at M16 for the 2025/26 season. But the decision about his longer-term future at United will be upon the performance of the team and his individual displays, complemented by what direction the club are taking under Amorim.

A lot could also end up depending on whether United qualify for the Champions League. At the moment, United have had a patchy start to the new season with two losses, but the season is still young and the table remains wide open. And Fernandes’ ever-growing influence at United can still end up proving decisive at Old Trafford.

Author Opinion

The links with a move away for Bruno is something that is going to remain along the season, but for now the Portuguese remains a key figure at M16, but if United are looking to sell him next summer, then the chiefs at Carrington need to start looking to bring in a long-term replacement for him at Old Trafford.

But now for the United, they will be looking to see his performance across the first half of the season before making any firm decisions on his future at M16.
