Manchester United’s trophy hopes looked dim this season after failing to progress in both the Carabo Cup and FA Cup earlier in the campaign.

In both cases, The Red Devils were knocked out in the first game, with Grimsby Town beating them in the Carabao Cup after a 13-round penalty shoot-out.

Unfortunately for United it marked the first time a fourth-tier side had eliminated them from a domestic cup.

The FA Cup fixture came in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s sacking, with Darren Fletcher at the helm, however United couldn’t overcome Brighton.

Now however, Manchester United have been crowned victors of the Premier League Shield.

RedYouthUnited have taken to X to announce the news that Manchester United’s Under-16s lifted the trophy.

The final saw United beat Burnley 2-0 thanks to goals from Silva Mexes and Jaume Carnacho.

The game also marked Alfie Walker’s last trophy for United as he’s set to join Leeds United in the summer after nine years at Carrington.

Mexes is also looking likely to leave with Leeds keen on signing him alongside Walker, however Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest are also interested, making it his final trophy with the club too.

However, it may not be the final trophy United lift this season as the club’s Under-18s side are still marching on in the FA Youth Cup.

A 3-2 win over Sunderland’s Under-18s on Wednesday 18th March 2026 saw them move ahead to the Semi-Finals against Crystal Palace.

A win over the Eagles could set up a Manchester Derby final if Manchester City beat Blackburn Rovers.
