Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has urged Xabi Alonso to make a move for former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
The Blues appointed Alonso earlier this month, with the Spaniard signing a four year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Alonso has been given the title of manager unlike Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, and it’s been reported he’ll have a say in transfers.
Chelsea face a critical summer after a disappointing season which saw them finish tenth and fail to qualify for any European football.
The Blues are said to be in the market for a centre back, whilst it’s thought they want to add another midfielder and attacker.
Co-owner Behdad Eghbali has said the recruitment model will be tweaked this summer, and Chelsea are reportedly prepared to target players who are Premier League ready.
The Blues have been linked with Morgan Rogers, and now Desailly has urged Alonso to sign Al-Hilal striker Nunez.
“I also love Darwin Nunez,” he told Football Transfers.
“Yeah, he’s not that experienced yet, but I feel that at Chelsea he can perform. He can bring something special into the system.
“If he plays by himself up front, he can really be a great point of reference in a Xabi Alonso system.”
Nunez is expected to leave Al-Hilal this summer after being dropped from their Saudi Pro League squad in January to make room for Karim Benzema.
The 26-year-old ended the season with nine goals and five assists in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Saudi club.
Manchester City are reportedly interested in Marc Cucurella, with the Spaniard facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested in Cucurella, who has two years left on his deal, and has made no secret he’d be open to a return to Spain.
