Cause of death revealed for Mark Hughes son

An inquest has heard that the son of Manchester United legend Mark Hughes died from sudden adult death syndrome after collapsing at his home in June, as reported by The Sun.

Alex Hughes tragically passed away at the age of 38, with Cheshire Coroners Court hearing that he collapsed in the bedroom of his £1.2 million home in Prestbury, Cheshire.

He was discovered at around 7am on June 19 by his two sons, who found him unconscious before emergency services were called.

Medical professionals later concluded that the cause of death was sudden adult death syndrome, the court was told.

Following the heartbreaking loss, Mark Hughes released an emotional statement through the League Managers Association.

“Jill and I are totally heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son Alex.”

Although the son of one of Manchester United’s greatest forwards, Alex carved out his own career within football.

After a short spell as a player, he moved into football operations and recruitment, building an impressive resume.

He became a licensed football agent and later spent three years in Portugal working as academy manager at VSI Rio Maior.

Alex Hughes also served as director of football at AFC Fylde before joining Grimsby Town, where he was working as the club’s head of player recruitment at the time of his death.

His work earned widespread respect within the football industry, with colleagues recognising his dedication to identifying and developing talent.

His father, meanwhile, remains one of Manchester United’s most successful former players.

During his time at Old Trafford, Mark Hughes won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the European Super Cup, along with several other major honours before establishing himself as one of the club’s modern-day legends.

The tragic findings from the inquest bring further closure to an incredibly difficult chapter for the Hughes family, who continue to mourn the loss of a much-loved son, father and respected football figure.
