Massimiliano Allegri and his Milan side picked up an important three points against Bologna at San Siro yesterday, with a goal from experienced midfielder Luka Modric separating the two sides.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, with quotes via MilanNews24, Allegri said “We want to reach the Champions League at all costs but we know it won’t be easy at all.”

“I have to admit,” the coach said, “that I really like the sacrifice aspect amongst the squad.”

Allegri continued, “The group is working with great intensity and the spirit of self-sacrifice I see on the pitch is key to overcoming difficulties. Every match, every training session, is an opportunity to demonstrate how much we care about this shirt and this goal.”

Allegri: Milan new boy Modric ‘an absolute champion’

Allegri was also full of praise for goalscorer Modric, who joined the club in the summer on a free transfer from Real Madrid.

The 40-year-old midfielder took his goal well and proved decisive in the narrow win over Bologna.

“Luka is an absolute champion,” Allegri said, “his experience is crucial for us. He never holds back and sets an example for his teammates, not only with class but also with his willingness to sacrifice himself for the team. His goal is a fitting reward for all the work he’s putting in.”

Despite celebrating his 40th birthday earlier this week, Modric played 90 minutes against Bologna and was named as Football Italia’s MOTM for the fixture.

The absence of continental football for the Rossoneri may suit Modric, allowing more recovery time in between important matches.
