Matheus Cunha has quietly become one of Manchester United’s most influential attackers this season, settling into life at Old Trafford far quicker than many expected.
He arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2025 for £62.5 million, joining Ruben Amorim’s overhaul of the frontline alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško.
Cunha had shown flashes of elite potential at Wolves—scoring 14 Premier League goals in 2024/25.
He has answered those doubts with ease, contributing goals, assists and relentless off-the-ball work that has made him one of United’s most reliable performers.
His versatility has also been crucial, with Amorim using him as a second striker, a roaming forward or a wide attacker depending on the system and the opponent.
Cunha’s movement between the lines, his ball-carrying ability and his confidence in tight spaces have added a level of fluidity that United’s attack was missing last season.
He has already built a sharp understanding with Mbeumo and Fernandes, becoming a consistent presence in United’s build-up play and transition moments.
His strong start has been reflected in his numbers, with multiple goal contributions in the opening stretch of Premier League fixtures and a string of high-impact performances in big games.
He has quickly turned into one of the players United rely on most when the attack needs energy, incision or a moment of quality.
Which brings us straight into the moment in London that sparked laughter from Cunha himself.
Matheus Cunha saw the funny side this week after an Arsenal supporter jokingly asked him when he would be leaving Manchester United to join the Gunners, according to Metro.
Arsenal also made an effort to sign him during the window, but Mikel Arteta ultimately strengthened elsewhere with Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.
Cunha is currently in London with the Brazil national team as they prepare for a friendly at the Emirates Stadium.
While staying at a hotel with his Brazil teammates, he was approached by an Arsenal fan who decided to test his sense of humour.
When the supporter asked him, “When are you joining Arsenal?”, Cunha simply laughed and replied: “No thank you.”
The fan later posted the interaction on TikTok with the caption: “Bro’s laughing like he even gets into the starting 11.”
