Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are among the Paris Saint-Germain players past and present to send their best to Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma following his farewell message to the Parisian supporters on social media.

Donnarumma is expected to leave PSG following their signing of Lucas Chevalier for a reported fee of €40m plus up to €15m in bonuses, despite the Italian having played a crucial role in the club’s victorious Champions League campaign less than three months ago.

The former Milan goalkeeper had been in talks over a contract extension with PSG for several months, but an agreement for the renewal never materialised.

The 26-year-old is now into the final 11 months of his contract at the Parc Des Princes.

Despite his contractual situation, Donnarumma was left disappointed by the measures taken by PSG, which has involved leaving him out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

That came as confirmation that Chevalier is now Luis Enrique’s no.1 and that there is no longer any room for Donnarumma in the squad.

What Donnarumma said in farewell message to PSG

Responding to his disappointing week, Donnarumma took to Instagram to say farewell to the PSG supporters in a post that read: “From the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.

“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened.

“I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done. If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it. I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home.

“To my teammates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers.

“Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour.”

How Mbappe, Dembele and PSG stars responded to Donnarumma statement

Several PSG stars past and present have left comments underneath Donnarumma’s recent Instagram message, including Mbappe, who replied with a heart emoji, and Dembele, who commented: “Grazie di tutto numero uno” (“Thanks for everything, no.1”).

Former Napoli star Kvaratskhelia added: “Grazie per tutto fratello” (Thank you for everything, brother”).

Two players referred to Donnarumma by his nickname, namely Vitinha, who wrote: “Grazie mille Shisho” (Thank you, Shisho) and Marco Asensio, who wrote: “Shishoooo grande.”

Desire Doue commented: “El mejor, merci gigio” (“The best, thanks Gigio”), while Warren Zaire-Emery added: “Merci Gigio.”

Achrad Hakimi wrote: “Uno di noi” (“One of us”), and Presnel Kimbembe added: “Grande Gigio.”
