Michael Carrick has had a remarkable caretaker spell at Manchester United helping to take the club to new levels ahead of the summer.

The 44-year-old, who took over temporarily until the end of the season in January, has guided United to third in the Premier League table whilst subsequently securing Champions League football for next season.

In the 15 games that he has managed during this spell, Carrick has won an impressive ten with just two losses coming since he took over.

Rumours about the manager’s future have been swirling given the good form that the first-team is in.

It has previously been reported that Manchester United would give Michael Carrick the permanent job at Manchester United if his side secured Champions League football, which they have.

Carrick has also been offered the job, too, with a two year deal (with the option for a further year) on the table for the manager to consider

However, the club have remained largely silent on the matter until now.

Manchester United have took to their official website to confirm that Michael Carrick has been given the permanent managerial job at Old Trafford for two years.

Announcing the appointment, The Red Devils confirmed: “Manchester United is delighted to announce that Michael Carrick will continue as head coach of the men’s first team, having signed a new contract which will run to 2028.”

The statement continued: “Carrick returned to United as head coach in January and was awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month award after victories against Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two games in charge.

“He has overseen qualification into next season’s UEFA Champions League with 11 wins from 16 games, accumulating the highest points tally in the Premier League since his arrival.”

Carrick will now lead the men’s first-team into their first Champions League campaign since the 2023-24 season whilst also leading the team in the Premier League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup.
