Michael Carrick reunites with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shared one of Manchester United’s most memorable partnerships, both on the touchline and in the dressing room.

Solskjaer appointed Carrick as part of his coaching staff after taking charge at Old Trafford.

The pair worked closely together for almost three years before leaving the club in 2021.

Earlier this year, both men were linked with a return to Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s departure.

Carrick ultimately landed the job, but that has not effected their relationship away from football.

According to BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone, Carrick reunited with Solskjaer before Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Trondheim.

Stone explained that the pair remain close friends and have continued to keep in regular contact since leaving Old Trafford.

With Solskjaer already in Norway and his family home located around three hours from Trondheim, the meeting was described as a natural opportunity for the two former United coaches to catch up.

Carrick spent almost three years working under Solskjaer at Manchester United before taking over as head coach in January following Amorim’s exit.

Both men were considered for the role, but United ultimately chose Carrick to lead the club into a new era.

Despite that decision, there appears to be no tension between the former teammates.

The images of the reunion quickly attracted attention from supporters, with many remembering the successful spell they enjoyed together at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer has remained a popular figure among sections of the Manchester United fanbase after guiding the club to three consecutive top-four finishes and a Europa League final.

Carrick, meanwhile, is preparing his squad for the new season as Manchester United continue their pre-season tour, with the meeting providing another reminder of the strong bond that still exists between the two former United coaches.
