Michael Carrick has been essential in the comeback of Manchester United in recent weeks, with the former Red Devils player coming into the club as a caretaker until the end of the season.
Carrick, who made over 400 appearances for the club in his time playing, has guided United to five wins and a draw in his first six fixtures.
Furthermore, with Crystal Palace to follow tomorrow, the caretaker manager has the opportunity to make it seven unbeaten whilst also having the opportunity to move into third in the Premier League.
However, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, supporters have began to look towards other options who could replace him.
It does not appear that this will be Gareth Southgate, with the former England manager expressing his desire not to manage in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Diego Simeone has been linked but looks like an unlikely candidate.
Now, according to Manchester Evening News, Michael Carrick will be handed a permanent contract at Manchester United should he secure Champions League qualification in the Premier League this season.
Currently, those inside the top four will qualify for the Champions League. However, a fifth spot could open up should English sides excel in European competitions for remainder of the season.
If this was to occur, it would make it easier for the club to secure qualification for Europe’s biggest club football tournament.
Now, with the terms of Carrick getting the permanent job outlined, supporters could look towards the team to see if they can deliver once again.
Meanwhile, with a difficult run to end the season, including versuing sides such as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, United will have to be at the top of their game to secure qualification.
