Middlesbrough close to signing Manchester United goalkeeper

Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has been transformed over the last 12 months.

Senne Lammens has established himself as Michael Carrick’s first-choice after a superb debut season at Old Trafford.

The Belgian goalkeeper was recently crowned the Premier League’s Transfer of the Season following an outstanding campaign, while the club continue to assess the futures of several other goalkeepers as they prepare for another season in the Champions League.

United have also been active elsewhere this summer.

They have completed deals for Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson and Tynan Thompson, while work continues behind the scenes on signing a third midfielder and strengthening other areas of the squad.

Manchester United keeper set for Middlesbrough move

Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek is close to joining Middlesbrough, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, who revealed on X that the Championship side are nearing an agreement for the Czech goalkeeper.

Vitek spent last season on loan at Bristol City, where he enjoyed an outstanding campaign and firmly enhanced his reputation.

The 22-year-old made 41 Championship appearances and became one of the division’s standout goalkeepers, winning Bristol City’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.

His performances were particularly impressive considering Bristol City finished in mid-table, with Vitek consistently producing match-winning displays and keeping one of the best clean-sheet records outside the promotion places.

Standing at 1.98 metres, Vitek has steadily progressed through Manchester United’s loan pathway after a previous spell with Accrington Stanley.

The goalkeeper joined United from Sigma Olomouc in 2020 and signed a new contract before heading to Bristol City last summer, highlighting the club’s belief in his long-term potential.

A move to Middlesbrough would hand Vitek another opportunity to play regular first-team football in the Championship, continuing his development before a decision is made over his long-term future at Old Trafford.

With Lammens now firmly established as United’s number one, a move for more game time appears to be the best option for one of the league’s brightest young keepers.
