Manchester United and Liverpool are locked in a battle for third place in the Premier League as the two sides go head-to-head on Sunday 3rd May 2026.
The Red Devils are currently sitting three points ahead of Liverpool in third place, as Arne Slot’s men are tied with Aston Villa in fourth and fifth respectively.
All three sides are fighting to stay clear of Brighton and Bournemouth, who are only eight and nine points behind in the remaining slots to qualify for European football.
However, if Liverpool lose to United at Old Trafford this weekend, the gap closes and the pressure is on.
That’s why a new injury to Mohamed Salah has fallen at the wrong time for Arne Slot.
Al Jazeera has reported that the Egypt international has played his last game for Liverpool as he suffered a hamstring injury in their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, this news was confirmed by the director of the Egypt national team, Ibrahim Hassan.
Speaking about the injury, Hassan explained: “He [Mohamed Salah] has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment.”
This short statement has given a big update on the comments Arne Slot made on the situation about the game, saying: “It’s too early to say, but we all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch.”
He continued: “For Mo [Salah] to leave the pitch, it shows you something, but we have to wait and see how bad it is.”
However, this marks a massive moment for Salah, as it’s not only the end of his Liverpool season, but his Liverpool career as he announced he would be leaving the club this summer.
Ahead of the game, for Manchester United though, this is a massive boost, seeing their rivals without one of their major attacking threats for a game that is crucial they win to secure Champions League football for next year.
