Well, for a club that has just won European silverware, Tottenham are not in a stable place right now. The Lilywhites are facing a lot of problems on and off the pitch as they look to build on the Europa League success going into next season. The historic achievement was supposed to bring an air of freshness around N17. Yet, it has done the exact opposite of it and brought in more turbulence and turmoil.
Many fans thought that the North London club had turned a page after ending their 17-year wait for a major trophy. Ange Postecoglou was also adamant that he would stay beyond the summer and lead the club heading into next season. But club chairman Daniel Levy had other plans and decided to sack the 59-year-old just two weeks after the Europa League win.
Spurs are back to square one now as they look to rebuild from scratch under a different manager. The Lilywhites announced the hiring of Thomas Frank as Big Ange’s successor, and it is fair to say that the Danish tactician has a huge task on his hands of turning the tide at N17. The 51-year-old will be under the microscope for every decision that he takes while being at the helm next season.
In hindsight, hiring Thomas Frank might just prove to be a masterstroke by Daniel Levy. The highly-rated manager did a wonderful job at Brentford, leading the team from the Championship to the Premier League in no time. He also ensured that the Bees became a stable top-flight team fighting to be in the top half of the league table.
Ex-Liverpool star Stan Collymore also believes that Thomas Frank is the right man for the job at Tottenham. Writing in his CaughtOffside column, Collymore said,
“It must be remembered that Tottenham probably need 10 more wins next season compared to last if they are to qualify for the Champions League via the Premier League. And I think that Frank has more strings in his bow to improve the club’s level going forward when compared to Ange, who was tactically inflexible for the most part.”
Stan Collymore believes Tottenham will need to significantly improve next season if they want to qualify for Champions League football via the Premier League. The ex-Liverpool star also suggests that Thomas Frank is the right man to help Spurs achieve that feat as he is tactically superior than Ange Postecoglou in almost all aspects of the game.
The first order of business for the new Spurs boss will be to get the players back on board before the start of next season. It was reported earlier that the players were planning a revolt against the club’s hierarchy after Big Ange’s sack news. Well, Thomas Frank will hope that he can quickly stabilise the environment at N17 and make sure that the squad is ready to compete on four fronts next year.
