Tottenham forward Richarlison has been one of the standout players for Thomas Frank’s team this season. The Brazil international has managed to play a vital part in the Danish tactician’s system, and has somehow managed to force his way into the starting eleven in this campaign. Not only that, but the prolific forward has also ‘worked his socks off’ to lead the team from the front.
Not many people expected the 28-year-old to become a key part of the team when the transfer window opened in June. The Spurs No.9 was constantly linked with a move away from the club, and it looked like his career at N17 was all but over. However, Thomas Frank still showed faith in him during pre-season, and it is fair to say that the prolific forward has shown why the Danish tactician has started him week in week out.
Richarlison has managed to grab two goals and an assist in three Premier League games this season. The Brazil international’s performance against Burnley and Manchester City showed why he can be the difference-maker for the team. And the 28-year-old is going to be key for any future successes under Thomas Frank this season.
It is fair to say that Richarlison’s stint at N17 has not been successful by any means. The prolific striker has failed to perform consistently under various managers, and he also fell down the pecking order Ange Postecoglou last season for various reasons. Also, the Brazil international has failed to replicate the same form he once showed at Everton that made Spurs spend so much money on him in 2021.
But a strong start to the current season might just be the turning point of 28-year-old’s career at N17, and he wants to make full use of it. Speaking to Daily Mail, Richarlison said,
“The day I came back from vacation, I had a very good conversation with the coach. I told him that I wanted to stay, that I wanted to prove I deserve to play and have the chance to help the club this season. It’s a matter of honour for me. Tottenham invested a lot in my signing; they didn’t give up on me even when I was at my lowest.”
The forward added,
“Now that things are changing and I feel good physically, I want the chance to give back to the club and the fans. I know I can deliver more. Offers did come, but I always made it clear that my priority was to stay, and Thomas said he’s counting on me.”
Richarlison has reiterated that he always wanted to stay at N17 and prove his worth at Tottenham under Thomas Frank this season. The Brazilian pointed out that the Lilywhites stuck by him during his lows, and he wants to repay that faith by staying at the club and giving his best in this campaign. He also admitted that there were plenty of offers on the table in the summer, but his priority was to stay, and Thomas Frank also counted on him.
Spurs fans will now hope that Richarlison continues his good form after the international break, and helps the North London club build on the Europa League success this season. With intense competition for a spot in the starting eleven up front, a drop in performance or form will see the 28-year-old out of the team under Thomas Frank.
