Manchester United’s summer signing Bryan Mbeumo shares a key footballing philosophy with one of Ruben Amorim’s established first-team players.

Mbeumo has wasted little time making an impression at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old winger, who joined from Brentford over the summer, has already been involved in every match across all competitions.

He’s already found the net twice this season, featuring in all four matches and starting three of them in the Premier League. He also came off the bench to score in the Red Devils’ loss to Grimsby Town.

The Cameroonian was a top priority for Manchester United during the transfer window, and after a couple of failed attempts, they eventually secured his signature from Brentford on their third bid.

Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes share a key mindset that could shape Man Utd’s play under Ruben Amorim

Bryan Mbeumo sat down with Inside United for an interview, where he spoke about how things have been going since his move to Old Trafford over the summer.

Harry Robinson, writing for Manchester United’s official website, spent some time with Mbeumo and noticed something interesting about his approach.

In his piece for Inside United, Robinson explained that the Cameroonian had spoken about how he thinks through “taking on a player” during matches.

Mbeumo looks closely at how opponents position themselves. He reads their “balance,” paying attention to body shape and eye movement.

This ties into the third part of his approach, where Mbeumo then decides which route gives him the best chance of getting past them. Again, it’s all detail and more calculated than you might expect.

Robinson pointed out that what Bryan Mbeumo mentioned echoed something Bruno Fernandes had said before about taking on a player directly.

Bryan Mbeumo gives honest take on Manchester United adjustment period following Brentford move

Mbeumo’s deal saw United pay £65m up front and another £6m in add-ons. The new signing admitted it took him a while to adjust.

“It’s been tough,” he told Manchester United club media. “I was expecting a lot from here because it’s a big club. It’s a big everything.

“I’m really happy with what happened to me here, the teammates, the staff, everyone in Carrington are [all] lovely people.

“You really want to come in and work here every day, which is really good. When I first arrive somewhere I don’t really know, I don’t like to be loud or show myself a lot.”
