Tottenham could have a chance to re-sign Christian Eriksen when his contract at Manchester United expires at the end of June

Many have lauded Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to replace Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank as their new head coach.

Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes Spurs have “hit jackpot” after hiring Thomas Frank, fitting in well at the club thanks to his tactical flexibility. Ex-Spurs striker Jermain Defoe also has high praise for the Dane, calling him an “unbelievable coach”.

Another former Tottenham player has been pleased with Frank’s appointment. It is none other than Christian Eriksen, who feels his compatriot is the “right man” for the North Londoners to steady the ship after a disastrous domestic season.

Christian Eriksen is set to become a free agent at the end of June when his contract at Manchester United expires. The creative midfielder has hinted that he would like to leave the Premier League and try something new, but when he asked about a potential reunion with Frank, he laughed off that suggestion. The 33-year-old insisted that the new Spurs boss had not been in touch with him regarding a potential reunion this summer.

The Denmark international worked under Frank at Brentford for a brief spell. And after doing well for the Bees, Eriksen was snapped up on a free transfer by Manchester United in the summer of 2022.

On course to be a free agent next month, former Denmark international Nicklas Bendtner feels Eriksen would be a smart addition for Tottenham. He believes Frank should be looking to bring in the experienced playmaker to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, particularly after working with him at Brentford.

“He [Eriksen] could make Tottenham better, and it would be a good reunion,” Bendtner was quoted by Tipsbladet.

“In Brentford he also succeeded under Thomas, but I am sure that he will find a good club and find what is good for him and his family.”

Eriksen enjoyed the best years of his career in a Tottenham shirt. During his spell from August 2013 to January 2020, he made 305 appearances that yielded 69 goals and 88 assists . The midfielder was a consistent performer, forming a strong partnership with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli during his prime.

At 33, however, the Dane is well and truly past his best and there is no point signing him even as a squad option on a free transfer. While the emotional connect remains, Tottenham clearly must focus rebuilding the squad with upcoming young talents with high ceiling.
