Nike officially drops Manchester United's Mason Greenwood following arrest

Nike announced Monday it has officially dropped its sponsorship of Manchester United player Mason Greenwood, who was arrested last week following allegations of rape and sexual assault.

"Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete," the apparel company announced on Monday, via ESPN.

Nike previously suspended its partnership with Greenwood, saying it would "monitor" the investigation into the allegations made against him.

Greenwood, 20, was arrested after a woman posted images of bruising and a bloody lip to social media alleging the footballer had assaulted her. A voice note of an attack was also posted. The posts have since been taken off of social media.

Greater Manchester Police released Greenwood on bail "pending further investigation."

Manchester United's response to the arrest and allegations has been swift. The club said Greenwood will not play or practice with the club until further notice, and fans who want to exchange shirts with his name on them can do so for free.

Greenwood was also removed from the "FIFA 22" video game last week.
