Manchester United offer to replace Mason Greenwood shirts after arrest

Manchester United players and coaches faced the difficult task of preparing for Friday's FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough coming off the suspension and subsequent arrest of forward Mason Greenwood amid allegations he raped and abused a woman.

According to Rob Dawson of ESPN, United have reached out to supporters and are offering to replace replica club shirts that feature Greenwood's name.

"As a United Direct customer we are writing to you regarding your previous purchase of a Manchester United shirt personalised with Greenwood, given the current circumstances relating to Mason Greenwood," United said in an emailed statement shared by Dawson.

"We can confirm that United Direct and Adidas customers who purchased a Manchester United shirt that was personalised with Greenwood's name and number have the opportunity to exchange it for this season's home shirt personalised with another player's name without charge"

Greenwood was further arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill but was released on bail pending further investigation on Wednesday. The 20-year-old remains suspended by United "until further notice," and Nike suspended their relationship with him on Monday.

As Emma James and Stephen Moyes noted for The Sun, some United fans have shared videos of them burning Greenwood shirts following his arrest.
