Chelsea have confirmed another signing on a busy deadline day.
Facundo Buonanotte has joined from Brighton on a season long loan just days after the rumour about our interest appeared.
After struggling to really establish himself on the South Coast, Buonanotte played for Leicester on loan last season, where he racked up 7 G/A in the Premier League, even for a desperately poor team.
He’s a creative, technical player who operates between the lines, and he has two Argentina caps already. He joins Enzo Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho in our first team contingent from the South American nation.
Ben Jacobs reports that there is no buy option in the deal, crucially. If we want him and he does well, we’re going to have to negotiate with Brighton at the end of the season.
“I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m just looking to add as much to the squad as possible, help the team and help the staff,” the 20 year old said to the club’s official website.
Buonanotte will likely play as a backup to Cole Palmer – either as a sort of “inside right”, “in the pocket” as Enzo Maresca likes to say or occasionally wider as a more authentic winger, albeit one who will want to cut inside onto his right foot rather than hit the byline.
Because of his similarity to Palmer, we do wonder whether the Chelsea talisman’s injury is perhaps worse than is being let on. Either way, a like for like backup was needed, and now we’ve got one. Competing on four fronts, and with so many players sold, it’s very necessary.
Welcome to Chelsea, Facundo..
