Following Juan Guerra’s departure from Phoenix Rising to the MLS, the 2023 USL Champions’ search for a new leader is no more.

Since Mar. 9 2021, Danny Stone has been an assistant coach in Phoenix, but his hard work and experience has paid off as he is the new head coach for the Valley soccer club.

Phoenix is 48-31-26 in the league with Stone being a part of the staff.

As a Liverpool, England native, Stone moved to Arizona and went to Corona del Sol High School. He would then move back to England and played as a professional.

Stone is excited about winning the USL, but looks forward to the future of Rising soccer, via press release.

“What we were able to achieve together as a group in 2023 was incredible,” said Stone. “I am delighted to have been part of that journey and feel we have put in place a strong foundation to build upon in 2024. The staff and players together are all looking forward to the challenge that the new season will bring.”

“I’m very proud to be given the opportunity to manage this organization. I have a long history with Phoenix as a city. I cannot wait to reconnect with the community and interact with Rising fans. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with this team. I want our fans to know we will all be working hard to continue to bring success to Phoenix.”

Guerra left Phoenix on Jan. 8 before he took up an assistant coaching job with the Houston Dynamo in the MLS on Tuesday.

The former head coach in Arizona leaves a legacy as Guerra led the Rising to the USL Championship in his one and only season.

Phoenix begin a set of club friendlies when they face the Portland Timbers on Jan. 27.
