Aston Villa look set to win the race for Tottenham Hotspur target Lucas Paqueta

Tottenham Hotspur have been only two days left to wrap up their business in the transfer market as they remain engaged in several operations to further strengthen their team for the 2025-26 season.

The North London side has already taken care of its most important tasks, as they landed the Dutch forward Xavi Simons after having tried to sign a new forward and having failed to land their earlier preferred targets, i.e., Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.

With this signing, the club has assembled quite a good team for Thomas Frank. However, yesterday’s loss to Bournemouth went on to show how difficult competing in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League is going to be.

To further improve their team’s chances of landing more silverware this season, the Lilywhites are still looking to strengthen the team, and recently, have been linked with the West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta for this purpose.

Aston Villa advance with their operation to sign Spurs target

Signing the Brazilian is going to be quite a challenge for Spurs however, especially as other Premier League sides are also interested in his signing. As per a report from CaughtOffside, this is particularly the  case with Aston Villa, who have already started negotiations with West Ham for the player.

The two clubs have discussed a total package of £50 million, as the Villans look to land Paqueta with a loan with an obligatory purchase option. The player himself is keen on materializing a move to Villa, but West Ham are still going to try to keep him in their team.

There is no doubt that playing for Aston Villa under Unai Emery would be an enticing future option for the midfielder. However, Tottenham could be an even more interesting option, as Spurs would offer him the chance to compete for the biggest English and European titles.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Paqueta would be able to secure a move at all before the transfer window closes. As far as Tottenham are concerned, Thomas Frank has already made it clear that he is well satisfied with his midfield options, and missing out on the Brazilian might not sting him too much.
