As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal are looking at ways to bolster their squad. The Gunners are keen to add some attacking players to their ranks – reportedly, they have identified Real Madrid’s Endrick as a possible target.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are ‘monitoring’ Endrick’s progress at Lyon ahead of a possible move in the summer.
The Brazilian international has struggled at the Bernabeu, but has enjoyed a much brighter spell on loan at Lyon. As things stand, they are third in Ligue 1, with Endrick playing a pivotal role in their recent success.
He will return to Madrid upon the expiration of his loan contract, but it’s unclear how much of a part he will have to play for Los Blancos next season. As such, this would open the door for Arsenal to submit a former offer for the player.

While Arsenal’s interest in Endrick is legitimate, the Gunners are far from the only big club in the race to secure his signature. According to Mark Brus at The Daily Briefing, Manchester United are also amongst those interested.
United have struggled over the past few years, but have shown signs of steadying the ship under the stewardship of Michael Carrick. They look set to finish in the Champions League places – as such, they’ll be able to provide Arsenal with some stern competition.
Furthermore, given his excellent spell in Ligue 1, it can be assumed that Lyon would like to bring Endrick back to the club on a permanent basis, but it is unclear if they have the financial muscle to be able to do so.
It’s unclear what role Endrick would play at Arsenal. They already have a star striker in Viktor Gyokeres, but the Swedish international has been somewhat underwhelming this year.
Arriving from Sporting CP amid a tidal wave of hype, Gyokeres has scored 12 goals in 32 Premier League appearances this season. These aren’t bad numbers by any stretch of the imagination, but one would have expected more from a player of his pedigree.
Furthermore, the Gunners lack a competent backup option for him. Kai Havertz is a fine player, but he isn’t a natural forward – his profligacy in front of goal lets him down on far too many occasions.
Endrick, on the other hand, has generally played as a striker for most of his career. He can also function as a right winger or as an attacking midfielder, but he is most comfortable when deployed in the centre-forward role.
An excellent dribbler with a keen eye for goal, the Brazilian has under-achieved so far in his career. As a youngster, some went as far as to brand him ‘the next Pele’, but he hasn’t shown any signs of usurping football’s greatest icon as of yet.
Nevertheless, he has all the tools. Could Arsenal be the club to get the best out of him? Or will he opt to make the jump to Old Trafford?
