Premier League Team of the Week XI

Gameweek three of the 2026/27 Premier League season is now behind us. Hull City continued their unlikely unbeaten start to the season, while Arsenal overcame Chelsea in a heavyweight clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are all still winless. Who made it into our most recent team of the week?

GK: Zion Suzuki

Losing Emi Martinez was a bitter blow for Aston Villa, but they’ve found themselves an excellent replacement in the form of Zion Suzuki. Making four saves and keeping a clean sheet, his distribution was likewise excellent throughout.

RB: Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Are we including Ainsley Maitland-Niles purely on account of his late equaliser against Manchester United? Yes. Was it also potentially the goal of the season just three weeks into the campaign? That’s also a yes. Check it out if you haven’t seen it.

CB: Luka Vuskovic

Luka Vuskovic has been a brilliant signing for Brighton. Still only 19 years of age, he operates with all the nous of a grizzled veteran. He got his name on the scoresheet on Saturday afternoon as the Seagulls drew 1-1 at home with Leeds United.

CB: Bobby Thomas

Coventry City lost again at the weekend, but they can take some comfort in the fantastic display put forth by Bobby Thomas against Manchester City. He managed to keep their attacking ranks quiet for the most part, allowing them to score just a single goal against the odds.

LB: Tyrick Mitchell

Crystal Palace’s squad was gutted in the summer, but Tyrick Mitchell is one of their top players who remained at Selhurst Park. He showed his worth to the South London massive on Saturday, scoring a brace against Fulham to record a famous win on the road.

RM: Tyrique George

Tyrique George initially looked like an underwhelming signing for Everton, but proved that he was anything but against Manchester United. He gave Diogo Dalot the run-around all game, scoring a late goal for his efforts.

CM: Martin Odegaard

Martin Odegaard is playing at his full potential this season. The Norweigian international ran the game against Chelsea, scoring early in the second half to complete the turn-around.

CM: Vitaly Janelt

Vitaly Janelt has quietly become one of the better central midfielders in the Premier League over the past few years. He proved this as such against Sunderland, when he opened the scoring for Brentford in a 1-1 draw.

LM: Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo received a lot of criticism last season, but has responded well in the new campaign under Andoni Iraola – he registered two quickfire assists against Ipswich Town to give Liverpool an away win at Portman Road.

ST: Kai Havertz

Is Kai Havertz a better option up top than Viktor Gyokeres? Going by his performances so far this season, we’d be inclined to believe that he is. Scoring the equaliser, he also played an excellent dummy to help set up Odegaard’s winner.

ST: Alexander Isak

Much was said about Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool – little of it was positive. Now, though, he seems to have finally found his feet. He scored twice against Ipswich in three minutes to stun the Tractor Boys and give the Reds three points away from home.
