Premier League Team of the Week XI

Premier League match week 4 delivered a weekend packed with eye-catching individual performances, from decisive saves and stubborn defensive displays to goals that changed the course of games in an instant.

Arsenal recovered from a nervy start at Sunderland, Manchester City survived a red-card setback to claim the Manchester derby, while Everton, Brighton, Brentford, Hull City and Leeds United each produced players who demanded attention.

That makes this Premier League team of the week a lively mix of familiar names and breakthrough performers, with places earned through what happened on the pitch rather than reputation alone. At one end, David Raya produced a crucial penalty save when Arsenal needed him most; at the other, Mohamed Belloumi and Kevin Schade delivered braces, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin bullied Newcastle’s back line during Leeds’ emphatic win.

The midfield brings further variety, pairing Elliot Anderson’s composure with Bruno Guimarães’ match-turning quality and Malick Yalcouyé’s attacking energy. There were plenty of strong candidates, but these 11 players made the biggest impression.

Defensive unit

1. David Raya, Arsenal, goalkeeper

Raya starts after saving a penalty against Sunderland with Arsenal under pressure. His stop kept the score level, then Guimarães opened the scoring 121 seconds later. Arsenal won 2-0, but Raya gave them the platform to recover.

2. Daniel Muñoz, Nottingham Forest, right-back

Five chances created and seven defensive duels say plenty. Muñoz constantly offered an outlet against Aston Villa, combining defensive work with the running Glasner demands.

3. Marc Guéhi, Manchester City, centre-back

City played most of the Manchester derby with ten men after Phil Foden saw red, yet Guéhi helped hold United at bay during a tense 1-0 victory. He led the match for blocks and clearances.

4. Jarrad Branthwaite, Everton, centre-back

Branthwaite produced a powerful display against Tottenham, using his strength in duels and composure in possession during Everton’s goalless draw. His passing gave Everton a calmer route out.

5. Vitaliy Mykolenko, Everton, left-back

Seven tackles against Spurs earned Mykolenko his place. He attacked every duel and gave Tottenham little room.

Midfield unit

6. Elliot Anderson, Manchester City, central midfield

After Foden’s dismissal, Anderson had to grow into a difficult job quickly. Instead of chasing the match, he helped City manage possession and tempo, showing composure under pressure.

7. Bruno Guimarães, Arsenal, central midfield

Hard to argue with this man’s inclusion in the team of the week just look at his almost perfect stats including the winning goal.

Bruno Guimarães changed the afternoon almost instantly taking the game by the scruff of the neck imposing himself in all facets and for those of you who don’t speak Portuguese, Guimarães had the following stats in English and his heatmap shows just how much he effected the game in the right areas:

He came off the bench and curled a superb effort against Sunderland, clipping the crossbar as Arsenal took control only a few minutes after David Raya had made an unbelievable penalty save to keep the game at 0-0 at a rampant Stadium of Light.

8. Malick Yalcouyé, Brighton, attacking midfield

Yalcouyé scored a superb individual goal in Brighton’s 5-0 win at Coventry. His energy stood out, while his work between the lines gave Brighton another penalty-area threat.

Attacking unit

9. Mohamed Belloumi, Hull City, right wing

Two goals at Stamford Bridge turned Belloumi into the headline act in Hull’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea. His finishing looked calm, and Hull left London unbeaten.

10. Kevin Schade, Brentford, left wing

Schade scored twice against Bournemouth, combining a forceful header with a delicate lob. He punished defensive mistakes and gave Brentford a dangerous outlet during quick attacks.

11. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Leeds United, striker

Calvert-Lewin led Leeds’ attack during a stunning 4-1 victory over Newcastle. He scored a powerful header and repeatedly unsettled Newcastle’s defence, creating space for others.

For me, Raya deserves the captain’s armband because his penalty save came at the crucial moment, while Belloumi gets the nod for the weekend’s most eye-catching attacking display. The Premier League team of the week has goals and flair, yet those key pressure moments and how the players handled them was what ultimately dictated my choices.
