Adrien Rabiot will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks after an injury for France, while Milan also provided updates on Pervis Estupinan, Christian Pulisic and Alexis Saelemaekers.

The break for international duty has been a damaging one for the Rossoneri, who saw several players return early carrying fitness problems.

So far, the worst of them would seem to be Rabiot, who has today been diagnosed with a lesion to the soleus muscle in his left leg.

This is effectively a calf strain, and will be re-evaluated in 10 days’ time, meaning the midfielder will be out for at least the next two games, possibly up to a month.

Rabiot not the only AC Milan setback

Meanwhile, Estupinan returned from international duty with a sprained left ankle and managed to run a little on the pitch today, but should still miss this weekend’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.

Saelemaekers was more reassuring after his muscular issue playing for Belgium, as he is working towards returning to full training and feels less pain than expected at this stage.

The big worry is Pulisic, who limped off during the USMNT fixture and returned late due to flight delays.

It means there won’t be a genuine diagnosis on the flexor issue in the right thigh until Friday, whereas the tests had been planned for today.
