Ralf Rangnick breaks silence on future after 2026 World Cup

Ralf Rangnick has been on a varied path following his departure from Manchester United in the summer of 2022.

The 67-year-old, who managed the Red Devils between December 2021 and May 2022, took over the Austria managerial position after he left Old Trafford (a position he has held since).

In his time with the national team, the German has overseen 44 matches, winning 26 games and drawing eight, and losing ten giving him a record of two points per game.

Rangnick will also lead Austria into the upcoming World Cup which is due to kick off in just a matter of weeks after a successful qualification campaign which saw the nation finish top of their group with 19 points.

Austria will face defending world champions Argentina in their group alongside both Algeria and Jordan knowing a top two finish will see the team progress into the round of 32.

Questions have arisen around the manager’s future following this tournament, however. Rangnick has now clarified these.

According to Calcio Mercato, AC Milan have offered the 67-year-old a managerial role as either Sporting Director or Technical Director.

Ralf Rangnick, however, stated: “Everyone probably noticed that something extraordinary happened at AC Milan last weekend. My only point of contact regarding contractual matters is and remains the Austrian Federation.”

With the manager now breaking his silence, it appears that he is committed to his role as Austria’s manager with the World Cup about to kick off.

The former Manchester United manager could yet change his decision although, currently, it appears that the 67-year-old is most likely to remain with Austria following the World Cup.

Focus, for Rangnick, may now switch towards leading the nation into the World Cup and will arguably not be focused on the rumours currently circulating about his future after this.
