Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has reacted to the news that Xabi Alonso is going to be his manager from next season.
The academy graduate has been a pretty permanent fixture in the heart of Chelsea’s defence, and he seems to be a bit of a voice for the team at the moment.
I believe his future could still be in a bit of doubt, and I can only really see him being a rotation option at best going into next season if Chelsea do revamp the back line as expected. But if he’s happy to do that, then maybe he will get to play under Alonso. Although I do see some doubts there.
Either way, he is really excited to have Alonso coming in as his new manager and has been raving about the move in his latest interview on the Chelsea website this week.
The English defender was asked about the pending arrival of Alonso.
‘It’s a really exciting appointment and we’re looking forward to that next season,’ Chalobah said.
‘His career has been amazing and it’s not a surprise he’s a manager now. You can see that obviously he loves football. Him being the manager now, for us players we can look up to that, knowing he’s been there, he’s done it, and also has that coaching ability and strategies to go and manage.
‘It’s nice having him come and obviously for us to follow him and for him to lead us. We’ll be looking forward to that next season, but this season’s not done yet and we’ve still got two massive finals.’
Chelsea’s squad should be eager to beat Tottenham tonight and potentially push them to relegation. But will they be? Callum McFarlane believes they will be.
Xabi Alonso has a lot on his plate when he takes over at Chelsea – including sorting out his toxic dressing room. Liam Rosenior reaction says it all.
