Barcelona are reportedly ready to shift their focus to Denzel Dumfries and Marcus Rashford after missing out on Nico Williams.
This according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, via FCInterNews.
La Liga champions Barcelona had made no secret of their desire to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club.
The Blaugranas had been chasing the Spanish winger for a couple summers now.
However, this past week Williams decided to commit his future to Athletic. He signed a contract extension with the Basque club until the end of June 2035.
There could be no clearer sign that Williams is not available this summer.
According to El Nacional, Barcelona’s plan had been to make a big investment in Nico Williams.
But with the 22-year-old off the market, the Catalan giants will take a different tack.
According to El Nacional, Barcelona will instead make two signings for smaller fees.
One priority for Barcelona is in attack. There, they intend to move for Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona in fact feel that they can sign Rashford on loan given United’s desire to get rid of the Englishman.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are also looking to strengthen at right-back. And according to El Nacional, their main target there is Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries.
The Blaugranas certainly saw how effective the Dutchman can be firsthand. He was arguably Inter’s outstanding players in the Champions League semifinal tie where they overcame Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Dumfries has a €25 million release clause at Inter. Therefore, if Barcelona offer that amount in the next week or so, a deal could be relatively straightforward.
