Cristian Chivu could ask Mehdi Taremi to leave Inter Milan in order to make way for Ange-Yoan Bonny and Rasmus Hojlund.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il Giorno, via FCInter1908.

Striker Mehdi Taremi joined Inter Milan on a free transfer last summer.

The Iranian international arrived from Porto after his contract with the Portuguese club had run out.

There were big expectations around Taremi’s arrival.

The 32-year-old had scored prolifically across his time in the Portuguese top flight. Moreover, he had also established himself as a regular in the Champions League.

Therefore, Inter had hoped that Taremi could provide not just a backup for Lautaro Martinez, but also rival them for the starting spot.

However, in the end, Taremi did not come anywhere close to such expectations. He scored just three goals across all competitions in his first season at Inter.

Cristian Chivu Could Ask Mehdi Taremi To Leave Inter To Make Room For Bonny & Hojlund

According to Il Giorno, Taremi has no intention of leaving Inter Milan this summer.

However, that could change if incoming coach Cristian Chivu makes it clear to him that he doesn’t see the Iranian as part of the project.

The Nerazzurri are aiming to renew their squad. And a player of Taremi’s age is not exactly someone at the centre of such a project.

Rather, Inter reportedly want to sign 21-year-old Ange-Yoan Bonny and 22-year-old Rasmus Hojlund.

Mehdi Taremi could have to head for the exit door to make room for that pair.

Therefore, reports Il Giorno, it may come down to Chivu to personally convince Taremi that his time at Inter is up.
