Premier League new boys Sunderland aren’t entirely convinced about bringing Marc Guiu back to the club according to reports.

The striker joined Sunderland on loan in the summer, but made just three appearances for the Black Cats, before returning to Chelsea.

Chelsea recalled Guiu to provide cover after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury at the end of August, which is expected to sideline him until November.

Sunderland not fully convinced about Marc Guiu return

The teenager has had to be patient at Chelsea, and played his first minutes of the season as a second half substitute in the win against Liverpool.

Maresca has always insisted Guiu will get opportunities, and it will be interesting to see how many more he gets before Delap returns.

Given the Spain under-21 international has now played for Chelsea, he can’t join another club unless it’s Sunderland as you can’t play for three different clubs in the same season.

Guiu has been linked with a return, but TEAMtalk have reported Sunderland aren’t fully convinced about bringing him back.

The report adds they will give careful consideration to a January return, but will first assess the market for options before committing themselves to an approach for Guiu.

Once Delap returns from injury, his chance of getting minutes will decrease even further, and it will be interesting to see how he’s managed.

Emanuel Emegha to join in 2026

Whatever happens to Guiu in January it would seem clear his long term future isn’t at Chelsea, with another striker in Emanuel Emegha set to arrive next summer.

Emegha has signed a pre agreement with Chelsea, and has put pen to paper on a seven year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old is remaining at Strasbourg this season, but will likely compete with Joao Pedro and Delap next season, which unfortunately leaves no room for Guiu.
