Report: Real Madrid-Paris Saint-Germain talks on Kylian Mbappe at 'standstill'

It was reported last week that Real Madrid offered €180 million ($212 million) to Paris Saint-Germain for star forward Kylian Mbappe after PSG allegedly rejected a bid of €160 million from Real for the 22-year-old.

According to Julien Laurens, Rodrigo Faez, and Alex Kirkland of ESPN, talks between the two clubs about Mbappe are now at a standstill because PSG haven't responded to the latest offer and want more than €180 million for the Frenchman.

Mbappe is out of contract following the season, dreams of playing for Real and has shown zero signs of signing any extension with PSG. Real or any other club can sign him to a pre-contract agreement in January that will allow him to leave the Parisians as a free agent next summer, but it's also possible the Spanish giants could attempt to purchase him during the January transfer window at a discounted rate.

The summer transfer window closes Tuesday night.

Interestingly, ESPN adds "there is concern in Madrid that if a deal does not go through now, the forward could eventually succumb to pressure from PSG -- and from his teammates there -- and agree an extension."

As things stand today, Mbappe plays in the same PSG attack as Lionel Messi and Neymar and, thus, could hoist the UEFA Champions League trophy next spring.
