Tottenham were heavily linked with Savinho during the summer transfer window, but they were not able to get the deal done.
The London club is still keen on signing the player, but a move this season will not be easy.
According to Dean Jones on TEAMtalk, Thomas Frank is ready to improve his attacking unit during the January transfer window, and Tottenham could revisit the potential signing of the Brazilian attacker.
“Spurs are still keeping an eye on Savinho, knowing that he wanted the move in the summer,” Jones said. “His minutes recently are not very convincing at City. Guardiola told him he wants him to stay but Savinho needs to see how he fits in.
“The next couple of matches should bring more game time for him and will be a better chance to assess where he is at – but it is the case that Tottenham would revisit in January if they saw the chance to do so.”
Savinho has not been a regular starter for Manchester City, and the 21-year-old will be tempted to move on. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career. Spurs will be able to give him that opportunity. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can convince Manchester City to sell the player during the January window.
Manchester City will be hoping to fight for the league title and other trophies. They will not want to weaken the squad midway through the season.
It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds. Convincing the 21-year-old will not be difficult, but Manchester City could make things difficult.
The 21-year-old is an elite talent with a bright future, but he needs regular time. He will be desperate to play more often. If Manchester City do not give him those opportunities, he could look to force an exit.
Meanwhile, the report claims that Spurs were willing to pay over £65 million for him in the summer. It will be interesting to see if they are willing to pay that kind of money in January.
