Rodgers gives ‘pitches, media and refereeing’ warning to Warnock

The Celtic supporters had been briefed by Rodgers himself after the Champions League campaign failed to secure European football after Christmas – as was his stated objective. The manager talked about needing four quality signings and after a series of poor results including two consecutive league defeats for the fist time in over a decade, the expectations were high that January would see experienced, quality signing arrive to improve the team and ensure that the league was won.

“It is probably one of the few clubs where you have won six games and drawn one out of seven but it feels more than that,” Brendan told Sky Sports, at his media interview with the broadcaster ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Edinburgh to play Hibs. And if Rodgers can guide his side to the essential victory then it will have been his first ever win at Easter Road as Celtic manager.

“Context is important and perspective is something you always have to have here as a manager and that is certainly something that I have. Supporters are entitled to make their opinion known and always will be especially with the demands at this football club.

“All I can concentrate on is making sure the supporters are clear and have clarity when they go into the games.”

Asked about the thought of possibly going into the game having been knocked off the top spot by theRangers, if they can win 3-0 against Aberdeen this evening that is exactly what will happen, the Celtic boss didn’t seem too interested in that.

“It doesn’t come into my thinking really, it’s about for us the next game and that’s tomorrow against Hibs. It will be a good challenge for us and there’s still so many games left. We are obviously a long way out. We have dropped points but knowing that we haven’t been as consistent as we’d have liked but we are still in a really good position.

“So hopefully going forward, with lots of remain games and lots of remaining points to to play for and always, as in any league, the best team will win the league over the course of 38 games,” Brendan noted.

On veteran manager Neil Warnock getting the Aberdeen job Brendan made a brilliant observation about the Scottish game, which tells you that he knows the score.

“Now he’s up he’ll see what the pitches are like, he’ll see what the media is like and he’ll see what the refereeing is like,” Brendan said. Brilliant!
