The Premier League Player of the Year conversation has taken on a distinctly Manchester United angle after Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott were all asked to make their selections, and unsurprisingly, it sparked a divide on The Overlap YouTube channel.

The discussion, which centred heavily around key performers across the league, saw four very different picks emerge, with Bruno Fernandes at the heart of the United-linked debate.

Gary Neville said, “I’m going with Bruno Fernandes. I don’t put Declan Rice above both Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva.”

Roy Keane made his choice, “If Manchester City win all 3 domestic trophies: Bernardo Silva.”

Ian Wright said, “Declan Rice gotta be in the conversation.”

Jill Scott went a different route and said, “I am going with Jarrod Bowen.”

When pressed to make final decisions on the spot, Neville stuck with Bruno Fernandes, Keane went for Bernardo Silva, Wright backed Declan Rice, and Scott chose Jarrod Bowen.

From a Manchester United perspective, the focus naturally lands on Fernandes, who continues to deliver at an elite level.

The United captain has won the Premier League Player of the Month award this season for March, while none of the other nominees have claimed the same recognition.

Statistically, Fernandes has been one of the standout creators in Europe, registering 18 assists and 8 goals in the Premier League this campaign, putting him just three assists away from breaking the long-standing record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

By comparison, Silva has 2 goals and 4 assists, Rice has 4 goals and 7 assists, while Bowen has contributed 8 goals and 8 assists in a struggling West Ham United side that could still face relegation pressure.

United, meanwhile, remain firmly on track for Champions League qualification, with performances improving under Michael Carrick as the season reaches its decisive stage.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have slipped to second in the title race, with Manchester City still in control if they avoid further slip-ups.

But amid all the debate, one theme is becoming harder to ignore, Fernandes continues to be the defining post-Sir Alex Ferguson signing at Old Trafford, both in output and influence.

Whether he ultimately wins the award or not, his name is now firmly embedded in the Premier League’s elite conversation.
