Ruben Amorim’s time at Old Trafford came to an end after just over a year at Manchester United back in January 2026.
Joining the club from Sporting CP in November 2024, Amorim inherited the United side in their worst-ever start to a season, on the back of their worst finish to a Premier League campaign the season before.
Despite having success in Lisbon, winning five trophies in four and a half years, Amorim couldn’t turn The Red Devils around.
His stubbornness to shift from his 3-4-3 system was a factor in the lack of consistency at the club, an issue which ultimately saw him replaced two months ago.
Now, Michael Carrick is at the wheel, steadying the ship, with many calling for him to be appointed as the next permanent manager.
However, for Ruben Amorim, the future still looks uncertain.
There have already been links with a return to Portugal, potentially picking up the Benfica job after Jose Mourinho this summer.
Now though, Spanish publication AS has reported a new job he’s in the running for.
The report explains that the Saudi Arabia national team are unhappy with current manager Herve Renard and are shortlisting a couple of potential replacements.
It’s understood that Ruben Amorim is on that list, alongside Roberto De Zerbi who is looking set to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Barcelona legend Xavi has also been on the list, however rejected the opportunity, leaving the door wide open.
Saudi Arabia are already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, drawn in Group H with Cape Verde, Uruguay and Spain.
It’s understood that there is the potential for Renard to leave before the tournament begins, with the side needing a new manager before June 2026.
