Ruben Amorim summoned for emergency meeting

Ruben Amorim has not exactly had the best return to management after his departure from Manchester United in January.

After being sacked by United, Amorim turned to Serie A for the first time with him taking on the managerial post at AC Milan.

The manager initially was focused on the summer transfer window, breaking the club’s transfer record through signing Goncalo Ramos whilst also signing a number of other individuals including Omari Hutchinson.

All those signings were made with one objective in mind: to push AC Milan further up the table and to help the Italian club win their 20th Serie A title.

The start of Amorim’s first season at the club has not shown the form needed to win the league title, however, with eight points from four games seeing the side sitting eighth in the table.

Defeat in Europa League action in mid-week against Benfica has further pushed negative emotions, with Gazzetta dello Sport now saying that Amorim has been summoned to an emergency meeting by Milan executives.

Whilst the sudden nature of this meeting may suggest the club’s annoyance with the manager, however, Gazzetta have said that Milan had full sport in Ruben Amorim after crunch discussions.

Whilst Milan’s slow start has caused these discussions, and attracted negative emotions from supporters, Amorim has called for patience.

“I know at Manchester United and Milan, two big clubs with the pressure to win, people expect everything in just a few months, and I feel the same pressure here,” the manager told Sky Italia.

“I think this team is a little bit different, they are more accustomed to working with three defenders, they are a little bit faster, a little bit stronger.

“Of course, I don’t have the clear characteristics that are perfect at this moment, but it is impossible when you take on a new team to have those perfect characteristics right away.

“I know it will take time, but I also know that there is big pressure at this club, yet I prefer this kind of job because if I need to fail one day, I want to fail big.

“I have a lot of passion for this club, I want to help this club to be better, I don’t know if I will have the time, but I look at my players and I think they are listening to everything that I say in training, and that gives me hope we can solve these problems.”

AC Milan take on Leece in Amorim’s first match since the meeting on Sunday. That fixture, representing the manager’s first chance to improve the club’s form more, could be imperative in establishing the side’s position as one of Serie A’s best.
