Former England manager Sam Allardyce has not dismissed the possibility that Manchester United could one day sign Cole Palmer from Chelsea.

Palmer, 23, made a big impression at Stamford Bridge after joining the Blues from Manchester City in 2023. He quickly became a key player for both club and country.

The midfielder came up through City’s youth system before making the move to Chelsea, who paid an initial £40 million for him.

Palmer signed a seven-year deal with Chelsea, and the total fee could rise to £42.5m if all add-ons are met.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Cole Palmer has made a significant impact, scoring 52 goals and providing 32 assists in 116 appearances.

He’s become a central figure for the Blues, with his current contract running through to 2033. Over that time, he’s been linked with a move to Manchester United more than once.

Palmer grew up supporting Man Utd. And Sam Allardyce believes a move to Old Trafford isn’t out of the question somewhere down the line.

Allardyce shared his thoughts on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, suggesting that Chelsea would be open to selling Palmer if the offer was high enough.

“I think Chelsea would always sell at the right price,” he said.

“It’s whether Manchester United have the money that Chelsea would want, but it would certainly be a big signing for Manchester United.”

“And certainly, what is he now? 22? 23? He’s just the right age, five, six, seven, eight years in him.”

Allardyce called Palmer a “tremendous talent” given what he’s shown so far, though noted that Chelsea have the kind of setup where they could sell him if it ever came to that.

“This is a particular talent that shone from day one at Chelsea when he left Manchester City,” he explained.

“Now, there’s been a bit of a lull because of the injury and because he’s been left out, but he will get back to where he was sooner rather than later, like you mean.

“So, he’s a tremendous talent and I often think that Chelsea, in their infrastructure, are always in a position to make a profit.”
