Sam Staab, Mallory Swanson Called to USWNT Camp, Alyssa Naeher Left Off Roster
Darren Yamashita/USA TODAY Sports

Emma Hayes is finally in charge of the United States Women’s National Team and she's bringing two members of the Chicago Red Stars with her: Mallory Swanson and Sam Staab.

The USWNT will face off against Korea Republic on June 1 in Commerce City, Colorado and on June 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Staab, 27, earns her first national team call-up days after making her record 100th consecutive start in the NWSL. Acquired by the Red Stars on draft night, the defender can play all over the pitch and provides a long-throw option for Emma Hayes in her first window as national team coach following her stint at Chelsea. Between her on-pitch abilities and the fact that she’s always healthy enough to play, this call-up was long overdue for Staab.

Swanson joins Staab on the roster and you know she'll be trying to score when she plays in her home state of Colorado. Chicago’s No. 9 has 89 appearances for the USWNT and was a part of the squad that won the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. She'll be looking to add to her 32 goals and 27 assists in international play.

Alyssa Naeher was left off the squad after missing last weekend’s match at Gotham with a thigh injury. If healthy, one has to expect that she'll compete for one of the goalkeeping spots under Hayes.
