Tottenham players must bounce back and prove critics wrong after dismal PL campaign

Ange Postecoglou managed to walk the talk this season and delivered on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club. The Australian tactician was under a lot of pressure to turn the tide around at N17, and he decided to put all his eggs in one basket midway through the season. The gamble worked and Big Ange led the club to Europa League success, bringing an end to the 17-year wait for silverware.

However, that was not enough for the ex-Celtic boss to save his job at N17. Club chairman Daniel Levy decided to sack Ange Postecoglou just two weeks after the Europa League win, due to the poor Premier League campaign. The decision was not taken well by many fans as they thought that the club was prioritising league position more than winning silverware.

Not only the fans, but the players were also left furious with the decision as they planned to revolt against the club’s hierarchy. Many key players also threatened to leave the club immediately following Ange Postecoglou’s departure. Several stars posted their goodbyes on social media after the sack news became official, with many thanking Big Ange for leading the team to Europa League glory.

Harry Redknapp has not bought into the player gimmicks at Tottenham

If the players were so ‘furious’ with the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, then why did they not perform better this season when the team was struggling to get results? One will never know the answer to this question. But it still stands true as the reaction to the sack news from the players was quite confusing. Emotions aside, it is fair to say that Daniel Levy took the right call by sacking Big Ange as the Premier League form was unacceptable.

Now, Harry Redknapp also believes that the Spurs players will repeat the same cycle with Thomas frank in the future. Speaking to Hayters TV, Redknapp said,

“It’s the same message. The King is dead, long live The King. They all come out and say the manager was great. The new manager comes and he’ll be great and then when he goes it’ll be ‘sorry to see him gone.’ That’s football, you can’t take any notice of what they say.”

Harry Redknapp has suggested that the Tottenham players are used to the same cycle of not performing well under a manager and then grieving when he is sacked. The ex-Spurs manager also adds that the players will again post emotional messages for Thomas Frank if things go south, but they will not actually improve under the Danish tactician. Redknapp urged the fans and the media to not buy into the gimmick that the players are actually upset with Ange Postecoglou’s departure.

It remains to be seen how Thomas Frank goes about his business at N17 as he replaces Ange Postecoglou. All eyes will be on the Danish tactician and any wrong move will be heavily criticised by the fans and the media. The first order of business for the 51-year-old will be to get the house back in order and get the players back on board before next season starts.
